The village Linden
Linden is a small, originally agrarian village with less than 300 inhabitants. Right in the centre is the 500-year-old, recently restored Lambert's church. For thirty years now people have been winning sand and gravel around the village, thus creating a beautiful nature area with a big lake as its centre. This lake offers great possibilities for water-recreation: swimming, sailing, surfing. of course, the surroundings are also perfectly suited for walks and bicycle-tours. It's only five minutes' walk from the house to the lake.
The surroundings
Linden is situated on the river Maas, at the meeting-point of three provinces. It's ten minutes drive to the medium-sized town of Cuijk, where all major shopping can be done. Cuijk is easily accessible by public transport.
In the vicinity are also several quaint old villages, such as Grave, Megen and Ravenstein, all worth a visit. Linden is also surrounded by woodlands and nature areas, such as de Tongelaar, de Mookerheide (moorland), de Hatertse vennen (fenlands), de Ooijpolder, de cilinderwand (an undulating terrain with a golf course) and the Reichswald (a forest) near the town of Kleve, just across the border in Germany, some 20 kilometres from Linden.
Nijmegen, Charlemagne's city, with its many sights, is 12 kilometres away. There are excellent shopping and entertainment facilities, such as theatres, cinemas, and numerous pleasant pubs and restaurants. Also Den Bosch with its gothic cathedral is well worth while a visit.
Since Linden is close to the motorway (E31 or A73), various large towns and cities in Holland, Belgium and Germany are within easy reach. By car it will only take you 45 minutes to get to Arnhem, 60 minutes to Utrecht; and dam square, Amsterdam or the Norths Sea beaches are only 90 minutes away. Antwerp, Brussels or Cologne are not more than two hours' drive away. So, you see, plenty of possibilities for cultural exploits, or simple enjoyment of nature, whatever you wish.
